The Beauty of Kamakura Ancient City
Kamakura Shogun city was built since 800 years old ago and one of the greatest ancient city in Kanagawa prefecture. The most impressive historic urban landscape of Kamakura City created by the strong visual axis directed from Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine towards the scenic seaside view. While the backdrop of Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine surrounded by the greenery hillside forest. As well as, there is a straight pedestrian path namely Wakamiya-Oji Street was connecting Hachiman shrine is remaining as important avenue lined with cherry-blossom trees at the both side of the pathway. The combined of great variety sacred place, natural landscape setting, visual character, and the linear thoroughfare have strengthened a uniqueness and yet the historical significance of Kamakura city. In all, the ‘borrow landscape or shakkei’ of natural resources and heritage elements has fabricated the historic cultural landscape characters and scenic view of Kamakura City.
